“Darling little Patsy’s birthday. God bless & protect her. Thank God! that she has quite recovered. – A beautiful bright morning. — Marie & her girls & George C. arrived from London, Helen from Claremont, & Lenchen & Thora from Cumberland Lodge. At ¼ to 11, we went to the Chapel, the sad ceremony at the Neue Palais & Rosenhöhe taking place at the same hour. The service, performed by the Bishop of Rochester only lasted ½ an hour & was very beautiful, simple & impressive. I was much upset, especially during the last Hymn “Now the Labourer’s task is o’er.” Chopin’s beautiful funeral march was played at the close of the service. – Took leave of all, but Louise & Lorne & Helen. – Went down afterwards to the Mausoleum with Louise & Beatrice Dear Alice’s beautiful monument made us think of dear Louis being surely now with her again, & his lost children, & many dear ones. – Louise & Lorne, as well as Helen left after luncheon. – Drove with Beatrice & Ina M™ Neill. – Lenchen & Thora came again to tea. – Was busy sorting papers. – Had telegrams from Affie & Arthur saying all was over, – enormous crowds, but the greatest order, & much feeling shown. Very impressive, touching & mournful. They had walked the whole way to the Rosenhohe. – Jane C., Harriet P., Bertha L., & Minnie C. dined. – Afterwards saw M’ Dalton, who has felt dear Eddy’s death dreadfully. He spoke very prettily of both Boys. -“
