Fitting for the summer months the Royal Collection Trust has uploaded a new portrait of Queen Victoria in a bright yellow dress to their online collection. Painted in 1851, the same year as the iconic Great Exhibition, the portrait was completed by artist Charles H Deininger after an earlier watercolour by Winterhalter. The Queen can be seen wearing a low necked yellow dress, which has been decorated by flounces of black lace and is accompanied by a black shawl. Victoria has been depicted with her left side towards the viewer, giving us a rare glimpse at the back of her hair, which has been braided and pinned up before being covered by black lace and decorated with what appears to be either orange or red flowers.
It’s rare that we get to see new portraits of Queen Victoria and her family so we must relish this newest release!

I really like this portrait! It’s so good that there are still things to discover about Queen Victoria.
