This Sketchbook Saturday we’re looking at this beautiful full length illustration of Queen Victoria’s second child, Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII. Drawn by his mother in 1849, Prince can be seen in full highland uniform. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert first began leasing Balmoral Castle in 1848 before officially purchasing it four years later in 1852. This sketch is an early depiction of the family’s happy life in the Scottish highlands.
