Watercolour by Queen Victoria of her youngest child, Princess Beatrice, dated 28th July 1860. At that time the family had been staying at their seaside home, Osborne House, on the Isle of Wight. In her journal for the day Victoria wrote: ‘After luncheon, we went on board the Victoria & Albert, with Alice, the younger children (including Baby) & the Ladies & Gentlemen, Marie joining us on board. It was very fine & the sea quite smooth. We admired the fine cliffs, the undercliff, &c., going round the Island. Got home at ½ p. 7.’ (1)
