This Sketchbook Saturday we’re taking a look at this watercolour sketch by Queen Victoria. Dated 5th December 1847, this painting is titled ‘View from my dressing room window at Osborne looking towards Barton’. In her journal Victoria describes how it was a ‘fine, thought cold day after a most dreadfully windy night’ (1), however she later describes the weather as turning ‘bitterly cold’ (2). Victoria and Albert stayed at Osborne on the Isle of Wight between 23rd November and 21st December that year and spent their days like any other ordinary family during the festive season.
