Today we’re looking at this cute pencil and ink sketch by Queen Victoria of her eldest child, Princess Victoria (known affectionately as “Pussy”), dated 16th April 1843. In her journal the Queen wrote that that this particular Easter Sunday ‘was quite lovely out, & almost as warm as summer. Both Children were riding in the garden in their panniers.’ (1) Following luncheon, ‘the Children came down to luncheon & “Pussy” looking really lovely in a new little pale green silk frock, which showed off her pretty little figure so nicely. I sketched both Children afterwards. — Out in the garden again & sat for some time on the bench near the skittles alley, whilst Albert was playing, which he does most days. — We visited the Nursery, & “Pussy” was laughing so, in her bed’.
