On 19th September 1819, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, husband of Queen Victoria, was christened in the Marble Hall at Schloss Rosenau, Coburg. He was given the names Franz August Karl Albert Emanuel.

For the Princes birthday in 1842, Queen Victoria gave her husband this beautiful painting by Sir Edwin Landseer, which shows their eldest child, Princess Victoria, with a Java pony and mastiff.
Despite common belief that Victoria disliked babies, she and Albert would regularly spend time visiting Victoria, also known as “Pussy,” in the royal nursery. In her journal dated 23rd July 1842 Victoria writes: “We went up to the Nursery & “Pussy” was quite delightful, nothing about so funnily & independently from one room to another. She is a great darling & has become so strong & active. My dearest Albert is so fond of her & she of him, constantly calling after him. She is becoming so like him, & what makes me so happy is that so many people find the boy [Prince Albert Edward] now like his dear father.” (1)
