This week we’re taking a look at this adorable watercolour by Queen Victoria, which shows her fourth child, Prince Alfred, standing on a chair in April 1846. While we don’t know the exact date of this watercolour, on 26th April Victoria writes in her journal that “after luncheon, Albert played with the Children, who were very happy with their bricks, as also this morning. — Saw Madame de St. Aulaire, & afterwards drew Affie [Alfred].” Could this be the drawing from that day? Unfortunately there is no way of knowing but, nonetheless, it gives us a beautiful insight into the private lives of Victoria and Albert!
