Born in 1788, Charlotte von Siebold was fascinated by medicine, a trait she adopted from her mother and step-father, Damian von Siebold, who was a city doctor and medical officer in Darmstadt.

Through reading her father’s medical books, attending private lectures and practical lessons with her mother, Charlotte gained enough knowledge to become germanys first gynaecologist.

In May 1819, Charlotte arrived at Kensington Palace, where she was to deliver the future Queen Victoria. Just three months later, she would also attend the birth of Victorias future husband, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
