On 3rd June 1865, King George V, son of Prince Albert Edward (Edward VII) and grandson of Queen Victoria, was born at Marlborough House, London
“Was quite startled at ½ p. 3 in the morning by being brought 2 telegrams, which they said I must have. They were from Bertie announcing that dear Alix had been taken ill, & then she had been safely delivered of a boy at ½ p. 1 this morning. — Many telegrams arriving & good accounts of dear Alix. — Lenchen drove me in the little pony carriage. — In the afternoon drove with the Dss, & rode up behind Invercauld, by that fine winding road in the wood. The evening so fine & warm & the views quite lovely the Duchess was quite delighted. Rode beyond the Carour & back. Had our tea & sketched a little. — The Duchess, the Duke of Argyll dined with us, after which she read. Continued good accounts of Alix & the Baby. May God bless them! —“(1)

4th June:
“A splendid hot morning. — Out with Louise & sat sketching near the so called boat pool, walking afterwards as far as Mrs Grant’s. On coming home read Prayers, the Epistle & Gospel of the day & a sermon to the Boys. — At ½ p. 4 went to afternoon service at the Kirk, where poor old Mr Anderson was very prosy. — After 6, rode with Lenchen up Glen Gelder, to look at 2 places suggested for the Sheil. — Had letters from Bertie & Dr Farre, giving good accounts but the Baby was born just a month too soon. Dear Alix was ill only a very short time, & is doing very well. The little Boy is nice & plump & larger than little Albert Victor. Thank God! all is well over! — The Dss of Atholl, the Gordons & Ld C. Fitzroy dined. The Duchess read to us afterwards. —“(2)
