Queen Victoria’s journal: Princess Alice attends her first Drawing-room, 7th May 1859

On 7th May 1859, Queen Victoria’s third child, Princess Alice, attended her first Drawing-Room at St James’ Palace.

‘… – Early luncheon & dressing for Drawingroom, to which Alice went for the 1rst time. She looked so nice in tulle over white silk, trimmed with pink roses & lilies of the valley, a train of white moiré, trimmed the same, & a wreath, feathers & small tulle veil on her head. Mary present, looking very handsome. There were a good many presentations, but otherwise it was not a very long Drawingroom…’
