The final journals of Queen Victoria – part 9, 7th January 1901:

“Had a much better night, but still slept on late. – A very cold day with a very high wind. – Took a short drive in a closed carriage, at 2.30. with Ismay S. – Dictated some letters to Lenchen. – We were delighted to hear from Anna Battenberg, also from Victoria B. & finally, officially, that the young Queen of Italy is at length going to have a child. – Rested. – Ismay S. read to me in the evening out of the new book by Ly Margaret Majendie called “The Mystery of Rougemont”. – Lenchen & Beatrice came up to sit with me after their dinner. – Further reports from Ld Kitchener.”
