“A terribly stormy night. – The same unfortunate alternations of sleep & restlessness, so that I again did not get up when I wished to, which spoilt my morning & day. – Got out a little after 1 with Beatrice. – When I came in I had to sign for a new Trustee to my private money, who is Louis Battenberg. Ld E. Clinton & Sir F. Edwards were witnesses. – The afternoon was wet, & I took a short drive in a closed carriage with Harriet P. – Rested, when I came in. – At a little after 9, after having my supper of Benger’s food, Harriet P. read to me, & I fell quite asleep, so that Thora did not write the Journal, as it had got too late. Beatrice & Arthur only came up just to say good night. – The news from S. Africa was not very good. A post of our troops had been rushed by the enemy & a gun was taken. We have however reoccupied the post. -“
