Queen Victoria’s journal, 27th:
“Dear Albert not better & the night not at all good. He was to stay in. — Drove out with Ernest & Marie going through the Flemish Farm & looking at Albert’s beautiful herd of Herefordshire cattle. In the afternoon walking. My poor Albert suffered a good deal of pain & had frequently to rest, but yet was able to get about. – The Dean, the addition to dinner. -“

Queen Victoria’s journal, 28th:
“My poor dear Albert got to sleep late & was the better for it, though he had still much pain. — Alice & I had a nice lesson with Mr Leitch, & then I drove out with her & Marie, & also walked. & We heard last night rumours of an extraordinary outrage of the Americans on an English mail steamer, which is very alarming. — Dearest Albert feeling very weak, but not worse & he has no fever. He caught an additional chill on Friday. — Heard from Ld Russell that the report was strictly correct & that the Law Officers were decided that the “Act” was illegal! There is to be a Cabinet tomorrow. – Nemours, Ld Carlisle, the Gladstones, Mr & Mrs Sutton (late Governor of New Brunswick) come for 2 nights, & Mary Biddulph dined. Sat between Nemours & Ld Carlisle. -“
