“It had rained a great deal during the night, but the morning was fine. — Breakfasted at Frogmore, & was photographed afterwards in the little pony chair, & also sitting at my table. — Just as we finished luncheon, dear Iréne left. — Held a short Council after which Ld Aberdeen has his audience on being appointed Governor General of Canada. The Rajah of Roboki (whom I had never heard of before) was presented. He was dressed all in white, & is rather a good looking. He is a Hindu, & speaks English perfectly. — Louise arrived at 5, & drove down, with us to Frogmore, where we had tea under the trees. Took a drive later with Beatrice & Victoria B. — The Dss of Roxburghe, Lady Mayo (who talked much of the catastrophe of the “Victoria” & of her son Capt. Bourke’s escape) Sir E. Ly Manson, Ld Hamilton, Col: Stockwell (formerly commanding the Seaforth Highlanders), Sir Dominic & Ly Colnaghi (come over for a short time) & Sir J. McNeill dined. — The Court Martial began at Malta today & Ly Mayo had a telegram from her son saying he had been obliged to give his evidence, which he had been most anxious to avoid, as he was so attached to Sir G. Tyron. — The Band played. —“
