This ‘Royal Fashion Friday’ we’re looking at this stunning dress that was worn by Queen Alexandra, wife of King Edward VII. Dating from around 1911-1912, the dress was worn by the Queen to attend one of the most iconic royal events, Ascot. While the light colours and floral pattern capture the spirit of summer, the choice of lilac and white represent the Queen’s half-mourning for her husband, who had passed away in 1910. This exquisite piece is a perfect example of Alexandra’s unique style, which combined elegance with splendour. The dress was last displayed in 2025 as part of Historic Royal Palaces’ ‘Dress Codes’ exhibition at Kensington Palace.
